Gratitude Reap the Benefits

The year is almost running to an end and a lot has happened around the world enough for each one of us to show gratitude. Moreover, a lot has probably happened to or with you. Whatever it is I hope you do find a space within to seek  purpose and hopefully find  the positive(s) to show gratitude because a grateful heart most certainly attracts  good things into our life.

Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos into order, confusion into clarity…. It turns problems into gifts, failures into success, the unexpected into perfect timing, and mistakes into important events. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today and creates a vision for tomorrow~ Melodie Beattie .

Showing Gratitude in These Times ?

Some of us may feel gloomy due  the current economic crisis, various  life events that may have affected us or maybe affecting us or others. But thankfully research has looked into gratitude and given us possible answers which should hopefully help and change the way we perceive our world. Some researchers found that the virtues of gratitude include good health and others have indicated that it makes us happier and can increase our problem solving ability.  So if this is the case what is the way forward and how can we integrate this awesome virtue into our daily life?

Practise Gratitude

Like most things in life showing gratitude may fall under one of the many life  skills that needs to be learnt, practised and embedded into our daily life to reap the benefits. After all I belief we will all like to get the best out of life. So you  can  start today by keeping a journal in which you use to write down even the simplest or tiniest things that you may have been overlooking or could have overlooked. If you are not the writing type, start with a mental journal where you are able to express gratitude within yourself.

 Gratitude journal

Try and write in your journal daily; shower it with all to be grateful for. There is no set time to write but some prefer to do so at the end of the day. What is important is to use the journal at least 3-4 times a week and have at least 2-5 grateful things written down each time you make an entry.   Base your journal on your daily positive encounters, don’t let your mind tell you otherwise. i.e you  have nothing to be grateful  for ;if  that is  case  simply start learning how to be grateful for just  being alive . “When there is life there is hope”.

Below are examples of  what can be entered   into your journal.

1, I thank God for the Day, this is one of my favourites.

2,I am grateful for my family.

3, I appreciate all the support given to me today by ……..

4, I really appreciate all you have done for me .

5, It was so nice seeing Mr A or Ms B today I thank God for bringing us together

6, I am grateful for my daily food and shelter..

7, I am so happy and thankful I was able to talk to an old friend today

8, I thank God for my health.

9, I am pleased with………

10, I am happy and grateful for Mr A or Mrs B family they just had a New born baby Boy

11, I am so grateful because our neighbourhood has just increased their security at night.

12,  I am grateful for all my pets because: They have  kept me busy.

Note: with gratitude you don’t just show it but also try and feel the emotion within you. In this manner you are sure to reap its benefits. If you are not use to showing gratitude it may take a little bit of practice.

“Gratefulness is the key to a happy life that we hold in our hands, because if we are not grateful, then no matter how much we have we will not be happy — because we will always want to have something else or something more”~ D.Steindl -Rast

Gratitude is one of the most powerful feelings or emotions that we can have. It changes the ‘not enough perspective’ to focus on being ‘Thankful’ for what we have. It evokes the feeling of compassion and loving kindness to people around us. Through this empathy we have for others, unconditional giving will follow. And when one gives unconditionally, one will feel happiness. Thus it does go one round and end up benefiting the one that is grateful.

    Beautiful post!

Today I am so grateful for friends like you, for my family’s good health, for food in the pantry, gas in my car, water and electricity (I think I paid those bills?) :) And just for the oxygen I breathe.

    xo

I love this quote by Alain, a French philosopher: “Be grateful even before receiving anything.” What a wonderful way to approach life.

    Hey Fatima,

My post today was about gratitude too but I had a slightly different angle on it. :-)

Positive energy in general can only be good for your emotional and physical state. Being able to show gratitude, and recognize and acknowledge gratitude, are big pieces of that positive energy.

Thanks @NP for your visit and comment .

@Amit just read your post …Yes we all need to show gratitude but like you have discussed… don’t be a push over to gratitude… I urge others to read to grasp the concept of both sides of the coin when making use of gratitude…

@One of The Guys thanks for your contribution :)

    I enjoyed the post.
My boyfriend is a recovered alcoholic, and being grateful, he often tells me, is what helps to keep him sober.
I try and practice gratitude every day.
    Thanks again….
