We need to pay close attention and be aware of our body and its actions, of our speech and what we say, and of our hearts and minds and what we think and feel. We must be on the lookout for the slightest negativity and keep asking ourselves such questions such as, Am I happier when my thoughts and emotions are negative and destructive or when they are wholesome? What is the nature of consciousness? Does it exist in and of itself, or does it exist in dependence on other factors? We need to think , think, think. We should be like a scientist who collects data analyse it, and draws the appropriate conclusion…… Source :The Essence of Wisdom ~ Dalai Lama

Fatima: Great point. I think we really do need to be careful of just having thoughts by default and not being aware of what is running through our mind. There are certain thoughts that really do need to be patrolled and what we feed ourselves in our minds really does matter. I think once we start really listening to what we are saying, we can make corrections and start the process of transforming the way we look and think about things.

He is so right!
Sometimes I’d like to engage in an argument or tell someone what I think, but then I think about the following days where I will spin it back and forth and sometimes change my mind. Not always unfortunately!
Negative energy is such a waste.
Hope you’re having a good weekend.

You hit the nail on the head. Self-knowledge is key to everything in our lives – knowing oneself can allow us to have insight on the ways to happiness and how we can motivate us towards our goals.
I would be careful not to think too much, otherwise one will find that that by thinking about a goal, it can actually debilitate our ability to instigate the action towards that…there is room for spontaneity at times.

Thanks for sharing! If you are not being motivated then you are unmotivated. Push forward!

Thank you all for your wonderful comments, contribution and thoughts. I love Dalai’s concept of behaving like a scientist by analysing our thoughts to draw the appropriate conclusions. I suppose we can only do that when we pay attention to our body and its actions. And like you highlighted @Guys negative destructive emotions are such a waste.
